One Layer at a Time
Care🍀 Emotions are multi-layered, a bit like the layers of an onion.
You gently uncover what lies beneath, one layer at a time.
Curiosity📚 Emotions are energy in motion. Each one with their own unique story and frequency.
When a strong emotion such as shame or anger arise, they can feel overwhelming or even overbearing. You kind of just want them to go away as fast as possible, so we distract and distract some more. What if we approached these emotions with presence and openness rather than fear and the desire for them to go away? What if we instead tried to put up a fight, after all - are we not the ones in charge?
Outweighing shame with emotions of acceptance and love?
Outweighing fear with emotions of courage and reason?
And if you are like me, you might wonder what is hiding inside the last layer? That is for you to decide. My bet is on light or love.
Creativity🤸♀️ This week, when you notice an emotion, just simply be with it. Thats it, thats all. And if the thoughts approach you, fine - be curious and sit with them too.
And as for the onion metaphor, remember, we’ve touched on how onions affect digestion in a prior post —so feel free to skip them in your meals, but they sure work wonderfully as a symbol for emotional exploration;)
