No fidgeting, no movement. Let your body settle.<br>Mental Stillness &#8211; Observe your thoughts without engaging them. When thoughts arise, let them pass like clouds.<br>Emotional Stillness &#8211; Next time an emotion arises, instead of reacting, pause. Building your parasympathetic &#8220;muscle&#8221; can help you stay balanced even when life&#8217;s storms roll in, giving you a parachute to glide back into calm.</p><p><strong>Curiosity&#128218;</strong> At the heart of the parasympathetic system is the vagus nerve&#8212;a superhighway that connects the brain to the heart, lungs, and gut, sending calming signals throughout your body. When activated, the vagus nerve helps lower your heart rate, improve digestion, and regulate mood. It&#8217;s like your body&#8217;s built-in reset button. Techniques like breathing exercises, ear massages, and stretching can stimulate the vagus nerve, gently guiding your body into rest-and-repair mode.</p><p><strong>Creativity&#129336;&#8205;&#9792;&#65039;</strong> This week, try these parasympathetic &#8220;parachutes&#8221; and see which ones work best for you:</p><ol><li><p><strong>SSSSS Breathing:</strong> Inhale normally, then exhale with a long, gentle <em>&#8220;ssss&#8221;</em> sound.</p></li><li><p><strong>Straw Breathing:</strong> Breathe in normally, then exhale slowly through lips shaped like a straw.</p></li><li><p><strong>Humming:</strong> As you exhale, softly <em>"huuuum."</em> The vibration naturally stimulates the vagus nerve and harmonizing the heart rate. </p></li><li><p><strong>Stretching:</strong> Gentle stretches, like neck rolls or child&#8217;s pose, can be a good way to activate the parasympathetic system.</p></li><li><p><strong>Vagus Nerve Ear Massage:</strong> Use your index finger and thumb to gently hold behind your ear, while the other fingers massage along the front of the ear. Slowly work your way upward and downward around the ear and along the sides of your neck. Apply gentle pressure along the cranial bones and jawline. Meditation offers us a gentle way to quiet these bubbles, giving our minds the space to welcome mindfulness.</p><p><strong>Curiosity&#128218;</strong> Meditation is a practice that has been embraced across cultures for thousands of years, with techniques ranging from breath awareness to mantra repetition and body scanning. Each method aims to bring attention inward, helping to quiet the noise of the external world and being fully in the present moment. </p><p>Incorporating rituals, like sitting by a sunny window, lighting a candle, or starting with deep breaths, can enhance the experience and signal to your mind that it&#8217;s time to be. Even just a few minutes a day can create a powerful shift&#129496;&#8205;&#9792;&#65039;</p><p><strong>Creativity&#129336;&#8205;&#9792;&#65039;</strong> This week, try a playful meditation exercise inspired by the Dalai Lama:</p><ol><li><p>Find a quiet, comfortable space to sit.</p></li><li><p>Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and focus on being in the <em>now</em>.</p></li><li><p>When a thought arises, imagine it as a bubble. Unlike true carnivores, whose short digestive tracts allow for quick digestion of meat, humans have long intestines, meaning red meat moves through slowly, which can put extra strain on the body. gently uncover what lies beneath, one layer at a time.</p><p><strong>Curiosity&#128218;</strong> Emotions are energy in motion. Each one with their own unique story and frequency. <br>When a strong emotion such as shame or anger arise, they can feel overwhelming or even overbearing. You kind of just want them to go away as fast as possible, so we distract and distract some more. What if we approached these emotions with presence and openness rather than fear and the desire for them to go away? What if we instead tried to put up a fight, after all - are we not the ones in charge? <br>Outweighing shame with emotions of acceptance and love?<br>Outweighing fear with emotions of courage and reason? <br><br>And if you are like me, you might wonder what is hiding inside the last layer? That is for you to decide. My bet is on light or love. </p><p><strong>Creativity&#129336;&#8205;&#9792;&#65039; </strong>This week, when you notice an emotion, just simply be with it. Thats it, thats all. And if the thoughts approach you, fine - be curious and sit with them too. <br>And as for the onion metaphor, remember, we&#8217;ve touched on how onions affect digestion in a prior post &#8212;so feel free to skip them in your meals, but they sure work wonderfully as a symbol for emotional exploration;) </p><p><strong>Credit&#129293; </strong>By acknowledging and working through your emotions, you create space not just for your own healing but also for deeper, more meaningful connections with the world. The shape, color, and consistency of your stool can give you vital clues about hydration level, digestion, and overall well-being. </p><p><strong>Curiosity&#128218;</strong> Your body processes food through the digestive system in an intricate and timely manner. On average, it takes about 24 to 72 hours for food to move from your mouth through the intestines and exit as stool. <br>Your stool&#8217;s appearance reflects what&#8217;s happening during that process and the general state of the <em>City of Gut</em>.
